Cavaliers hoping to send seniors out on high note (Rivals.com)

Virginia Football Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 22:32:04 PST-

Virginia Football has no shortage of incentives heading into its home finale against Clemson (5-5, 3-4 ACC) on Saturday in Scott Stadium.

A victory would make the Cavaliers (5-5, 3-3) bowl eligible. Virginia Football is also still barely alive for a shot at the Coastal Division title.

It needs Georgia Tech to beat Miami on Thursday night and then victories in its final two games against the Tigers and Virginia Football Tech to have a shot, but even then it would require extra help.

That's why instead of focusing on the standings, the Cavaliers, losers of two in a row, said they want to beat Clemson so they can send the team's seniors out of Scott Stadium on a high note.

"It's a lot riding on this game and it's really not just being able to become bowl eligible," Virginia Football sophomore...

Wake Forest beats Virginia Football 28-17 to take ACC lead (AP)
Sat, 08 Nov 2008 16:04:49 PST-Brandon Pendergrass rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown, Kevin Patterson returned an interception for another score and Wake Forest surged to the top of the jumbled Atlantic Coast Conference standings with a 28-17 win over Virginia Football on Saturday. Behind a dominant defense that forced four turnovers and stymied the league's most accurate passer, the Demon Deacons ended years of futility against the...

Virginia Football Strategy and Personnel
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 05:00:16 GMT- THIS WEEK'S GAME: Clemson at Virginia, Nov. 22 -- The Cavaliers and Tigers should be in desperation mode because they don't want to go into their season finales against arch-rivals Virginia Football Tech and South Carolina, respectively, needing a win to become bowl eligible. The loser of this game will be one step closer to home for the holidays. PLAYERS TO WATCH: QB Marc Verica -- The honeymoon is just about over for Verica.

Virginia Football Inside Slant
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 05:00:15 GMT- Virginia Football has no shortage of incentives heading into its home finale against Clemson (5-5, 3-4 ACC) on Saturday in Scott Stadium. A victory would make the Cavaliers (5-5, 3-3) bowl eligible. Virginia Football is also still barely alive for a shot at the Coastal Division title. Virginia Football Notes, Quotes
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 05:00:15 GMT- SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: The Cavaliers used their bye week to fine-tune the passing game, particularly quarterback Marc Verica's penchant for interceptions. Verica has thrown 12 interceptions in eight starts, offsetting his 237.7 passing yards per game in conference contests, tops in the league. SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: This unit is tied for second in the ACC with 28 sacks, led by 11 from OLB Clint Sintim.

Rivalries matter even with little on the line
Thu, 20 Nov 2008 17:02:24 GMT-On paper, this year's rivalry games don't have the usual appeal. But Pete Fiutak says Rivalry Week ain't played on paper.

What Bodes Well?
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 07:47:59 GMT-A plus for Maryland is that they are only three hours from Bernardo Nunez' home. "That definitely helps," Nunez admitted. "I think that distance might be a big factor. I'd have to really get a great vibe and feeling from a team to want to go far away." This doesn't bode well for teams like Oklahoma (Dec. 19 offcial visit) and Michigan State, which Nunez suggests are a "little too far."
